Welcome to the
Policy Documents Site
Welcome to the City University of New York Policy Documents Site. This web site has been established to help give the university community and the public easy access to CUNY-wide policies as part of our continuing effort to further integrate the City University of New York.
On this site you will find many of the most important CUNY-wide policy documents. Among these are secondary documents that consolidate current CUNY policies adopted by the Board of Trustees over the years, interpreting documents from the Chancellery, and the Board Minutes that are the underlying and official record of CUNY policies. Over time we will add the Board Bylaws, other interpreting memos, and all new CUNY-wide policies as the Board of Trustees adopts them.
In order to help you navigate this site to find the documents that you seek, we recommend that you take a few minutes to read through the following information.
As you navigate through this site you will find that every page has the same basic layout as this main page:
• A Main Text Area containing the policy document, help documentation, table of contents, index, or search, that you are currently viewing.
• A Navigation Bar at the left of the page that shows where you are and where you can go next, and provides links to all of these locations. The Navigation Bar also provides quick access to this Main Page and the four main sections of this site.
There are four main sections of this website:
• The Table of Contents is the quickest way to find out what policy documents are available on this site, what subject matter they cover, and how they are structured. It also allows you to navigate through these documents and their sections to browse the text of the documents. The Table of Contents can be accessed from any page in this site using the Table of Contents link in the Navigation Bar on the left.
• The Index is a good place to identify the terms used in the various policy documents. You can then use the Index to browse occurrences of these terms in the text of the policy documents or use the terms to create searches using the Search Function. The Index can be accessed from any page in this site using the Index link in the Navigation Bar on the left.
• The Search Function allows you to search individual policy documents, any combination of these documents, or the entire collection of documents on this site. After running a search you can browse occurrences of your search term(s) in the text of the document(s), or modify the search to improve the results. The Search Function can be accessed from any page in this site using the Search Function link in the Navigation Bar on the left.
• The Help Documentation contains information and answers on how to use various aspects of the Policy Documents Site. There is also a form enabling you to contact the Policy Documents Site Team with questions not answered in the Help Documentation. The Help Documentation can be accessed from any page in this site using the Search Function link in the Navigation Bar on the left.

These Board Bylaws deal with matters including Board meetings, officers and committees of the Board, academic due process, and faculty and departmental duties. The Board Bylaws stand as the highest source of policy within the University and take precedence over all other University policy documents, including non-bylaw policy action items.

• The CUNY Records Retention and Disposition Schedule indicates the minimum length of time that college and University officials must retain records before the records may be disposed of legally. This Schedule is meant both to ensure that records are retained as long as required for administrative, legal, and fiscal purposes, and to encourage the systematic disposal of records that are no longer needed. This Schedule replaces the schedule issued by the University in 1993 and any other retention guidance that college and University officials may have adopted for their records. College and University officials should check with their Records Management Coordinator about any uncertainties regarding the application of this Schedule.
