Welcome to the

Search Function

The Search Function allows you to search individual policy documents, any combination of these documents, or the entire collection of documents on this site. After running a search you can browse occurrences of your search term(s) in the text of the document(s), or modify the search to improve the results. The Search Function can be accessed from any page in this site using the Search Function link in the Navigation Bar on the left.

The following types of searches are available:

The Natural Language Search allows you to describe what you are looking for in your own words, exactly as you would describe it to another person. This is the best type of search for most users to start with, especially those who are unsure of the exact combination of terms to search for. The Natural Language Search can be accessed from inside the Search Function using the Natural Language Search link in the Navigation Bar on the left.

The Guided Search allows you to build a search by combining words and/or phrases with connectors selected from the drop-down menus to create more precise searches. This type of search will work best for users who are familiar with search tools like computer library catalogues and who have a good idea of the combination of terms to search for. The Guided Search can be accessed from inside the Search Function using the Guided Search link in the Navigation Bar on the left.

The Command Search allows you to enter complex search queries using an unlimited number of words, phrases, Boolean and proximity connectors, wildcards, and parentheses. This type of search is for experienced users who are fluent in the use of the listed elements and who are comfortable creating search strings. The Command Search can be accessed from inside the Search Function using the Command Search link in the Navigation Bar on the left.
